Your master bathroom should be not only functional, but also a place for luxurious relaxation.
With today’s bathroom design ideas and unique fixtures, it can be an inviting, beautiful and comforting space.
Whether you prefer an invigorating shower massage or a long soak in the tub, you can turn your master bathroom into a sanctuary for de-stressing after a hard day.
Bathroom design ideas can help you transform the space so you can luxuriate in the privacy and comfort of your own home. It can even be designed so you can share that experience with a special someone away from others in the house such as your children.
Design a Feature Bathtub
Not long ago, spa baths were all the rage. These days, people are opting for freestanding bathtubs that are a feature focus of the room, especially custom-designed tubs. There are so many shapes to choose from and your tub can even have different slants and levels to it.
Picture how any of these bathroom design ideas will look:
- a gleaming freestanding white tub placed front and centre of a panoramic window
- a tub on a raised platform so you can feel like you are on a pedestal
- wood paneling under and around the tub, as well as on the platform, to give the entire bathroom the feel of a spa and sauna
- a sunken tub with its rim at floor level. Step down into it like you’re entering a pool. Then surround it with rounded, ornate rocks like it’s sitting in a bed of stones.
Shower Yourself with Luxury
Forget the old style of a shower over the tub. Go for a walk-in shower.
Then choose a design with multiple shower heads – to make it luxurious for you and to even accommodate more than one person.
Have an overhead “rain” sprayer to create that tropical downpour. Set up other jets at waist level and down lower for a full body massage.
And remember to have a flexible hand-held sprayer as well for different needs, heights and situations.
These high-end systems have programmable controllers that allow you to select water temperature and specify the operation of each shower head and body spray.
You can even set pulsation intervals to vary the massaging effect of the water sprays.
If you really want to pamper yourself, install a steam shower that works as a steam room and also a shower. Have a bench installed too so you can fully enjoy the experience.
Make sure your master bathroom has room for more than one person. The design should incorporate at least two sinks and huge mirrors to enhance the impression of space. Interior design experts can really help here.
For the countertop, forget laminex. Let the natural grains of marble, granite or other stonework declare your bathroom’s style and character.
Vessel sinks, fixed on top of the counter like free-standing bowls, are nothing short of awesome. They can be made from tempered glass in amazing colours and unique patterns. Or go for polished stone with its swirling grain. Then there’s the classic pure white porcelain.
Be sure you have faucets of equal distinction. Waterfall faucets, especially, are one of the most stunning recent developments in bathroom design. Once you’ve had these, you’ll never want anything else.
We haven’t even touched on lighting. There are so many bathroom design ideas you can look at to make the most of the space. A designer can show you how to enhance it to be stunningly unique.
